Does anyone know if the B1 visa can be extended in US? The visa stamp on the passport is for 6months. when entered US, the officer granted 5.5 months of stay.......

I am thinking I simply appy for B1 extension 30 days before I-94 expiry date and the actual visa stamp on the visa does not matter.....is it true

I think most people think immigrants steal their jobs, but the truth is sometimes we struggle to hire a local person and then a foreigner walks in with the skills we need, but we can't hire him. (this is not to say we have not had good quality local people for the job as well)

I have filed for green card for my mother (all the required forms like I-130, I-485). My mom has an interview for the 29th of July. But unfortunately, due to her mom's demise and other family obligation like taking care of my dad she will not be able to come. Infact, she is not sure when she can come back. My question(s):
1) Can I withdraw my application for her green card (I-485, particularly)? So that I can file at a later date when things are in order.
2) If not, can I get postponement on the interview? and how far can we postpone it?

The questions arise because if we don't show up for the green card interview it is considered abandonment of the process, and can make it difficult (or maybe impossible) to get a green card in the future. If it wasn't for the family situation she would have been happy to be here.

I think you guys are aware of unfair treatment of the Labor filer at the Atlanta Center. It is taking more than 100 days to approve labor while Chicago normal approval rate is less than 15 days. Core group..Do you have any feedback on this? Any plan to address this issue?

I think it is better. Your EAD and AP will be processed faster because they are in CSC and your I-485 is in TSC, which is better than NSC.

I took an infopass appointment last october and my FBI name check status was pending. After seeing the USCIS memo on march4th that all namecheck pending for 180 days has been cleared by feb 28th 2009, i went again for an infopass appt last week. IO toldme that my namecheck is still pending.

So i contacted my senators office same day and sent all my info along with the USCIS memo. Next day senators office called me back and told me that they called USCIS and came to know that my name check has been cleared. Senators office told me that infopass information could be wrong or may not have been updated.

IS that a possibility ? any inputs ?


I took infopass again last week and the IO told me the FBI name check is still pending. My lawyer initiated and inquiry to nebraska serv center and got following notification

"CIS electronic records indicate that both applicants have current Fingerprint results and FBI name checks"

Does that mean FBI name check is cleared?. If yes why infopass showing wrong thing?. Also i had only one FP done, that was in sep 2007.

i have I-485 Pending with EAD and AP. what is the maximum period that i can stay out of USA?

is it possible that i can stay 11 months out side the USA and come back to re apply AP and go back again for 11 months?

Usually I-485 processing time is 6-9 months. If your PD is current and filed before March 26 2009, you can call and find out your petition status.

I-485, EB visa processing time for TSC is showing as Mar 26 2009. is it going to be true or typo?
